Recently, one of the education classes from our local community college donated an AMAZING reading nook for our classroom. The college students collaborated with each other to design, create, and build this fabulous new place for our students to read. It has been such a wonderful addition to our classroom, and we are so grateful for the college students for their thoughtfulness and talent! Their professor was my professor once and it is such a treat to see her continue to help shape college students for their future careers. I am so excited to share the photos with all of you! The students love this special place. The box is actually a recycled refrigerator box. The students had a plan for assembly before they got there, and I was so impressed with how well they worked together. They put the whole thing together in about an hour while the kiddos were gone to specials. The "Starbooks Cafe" sign is a vinyl ...

nErD Camp MI 2016
This week, my teacher life was changed. The change was quick, swift, slightly unexpected, appreciated, and beautiful. Oh, so beautiful. I embraced my inner book nerd and it was magical. nErD Camp 2016 Two days of wonder. I think that simply being in the presence of teachers, librarians, administrators, authors, and illustrators will fill you with a wonder so magical that there are few words to describe it. Wonder because I was sitting in the same room as the author who wrote the book that touched my life as a middle schooler. The book that was published on my birthday. The author who has created so many masterpieces that have brought light into the lives of so many readers. Kate DiCamillo just has a way of making you cry tears of joy. You just want to squeeze her and tell her thank you. Wonder because you are so honored to be in the presence of so many amazing individuals who are continuously making the world a better place ...
Our Donors Choose Project for Book Clubs
Recently, my students and I put together a new project on our Donors Choose page. Just like our last project, the idea was completely created by my kiddos. The only thing I did was locate the books on Amazon and help type up their plan. Our book club dream actually grew from our AMAZING Global Read Aloud experience that we participated in this year. As a class, we read the book Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. After the book was finished, the students begged for more. They had enjoyed the discussions, the shared reading, collaborating together on tasks and reflections, and wanted to do it again. Here is an overview of our project incase you are looking to write your own Donors Choose request! Book Clubs: Embarking On A New Reading Adventure My Students "Stories are light. Light is precious in a world so dark."- Kate DiCamillo As the school year matures, my students are finding that they enjoy discussing and sharing books with each other. However, only ...
