This week, my students will be exploring one of my favorite math units-graphing. I love teaching this unit because there are so many ways that you can incorporate math skills, real world scenarios, and opportunities for student created content into the lessons centered around graphing and collecting/organizing data. Sometimes, I have to get creative when pulling in technology resources during our graphing unit for second graders. However, that problem no longer exists because of an awesome and FREE website that is quickly becoming one of my favorite "go to" resources for technology incorporation in the classroom. Welcome to Gynzy.com! I love how this new tech tool is helping me support student learning in my classroom. We are going to be interpreting and creating graphs as well as formulating and answering questions about our graphs. I wanted a way to model how to build a bar graph with my students as well as highlight characteristics and key details of a graph with my ...

QR Help with Vowel Sounds
At this point in the school year, most of us are in 1 of 3 stages- 1)Test Prep/Review 2)Assessment Craze or 3) Relief. My kiddos and I are currently in stage 1. We test in just 20 days. I am really nervous excited about our assessments because my kiddos have worked so hard this year, and I know they are going to own it! One of our centers this week covers reviewing long and short vowel sounds. The students are given a group of words and asked to sort them by their vowel sound. After all the words are sorted into their designated buckets, the students can scan the QR code(attached to the front of the bucket) with one of our classroom iPads. After they ...
ThingLink
I am slightly addicted to new apps and love discovering fun ways to use them in my classroom. I get really excited when I find an app to use that is going to allow students to be in control of their own learning experiences. Don't get me wrong...I love the simple "game" format apps, but I think apps that allow a lot of room for creativity and exploration are even better. So..I just HAVE to share one of my new favorite apps with you. ThingLink What is ThingLink? ThingLink is a FREE web-based program that allows you to make images come alive by embedding links within the image. It also has an app that can be downloaded to an Andriod or Apple device. The program is very user friendly, and you can create interactive images for your students to use within minutes! How can it be used as a classroom tool? The classroom possibilities with this app are endless. Next week, students in my classroom will begin their research on penguins. My kiddos will be using Thinglink to ...
